The Daily Chop: Will Braves explore remaining FA outfield options?

The Braves could stand to upgrade their outfield situation, but will they look to the free agent market for answers?

The Braves have a glaring need at third base, but could they also look to upgrade their outfield corps this offseason? Atlanta has internal options but with Marcel Ozuna, Nicholas Castellanos, and others still available on the free agent market the club could be aggressive in pursuing a higher ceiling than is likely to realized the platoon of Nick Markakis and Adam Duvall.

One potential outfield option was taken off the board on Saturday, as the Marlins agreed to terms with Corey Dickerson. Though he likely would represent an upgrade over Markakis, the two-year, $17.5 million deal Dickerson received from Miami may have been a tad pricey given the other options that remain. Steamer projects Dickerson to produce 1.1 WAR (across 564 PA) in 2020, with Markakis projected for 1.0 WAR (across 613 PA).

Rumors have surfaced that Atlanta may have interest in Ozuna, but with their more pressing need at third base it appears that the Braves may be preoccupied with regards to the outfield. With yet another solid, if unexciting, option taken off the board the club could act more quickly in securing some measure of improvement. Could the Dickerson signing actually have any effect on teams like Atlanta? Doubtful. But as options dwindle and the Donaldson market remains in stalemate, the urgency to add wins in areas other than third base could become more vital.
