As the Braves shoot for their first victory of 2019, they will lean heavily on Sean Newcomb’s left arm. And, possibly, a voodoo doll whose sole purpose is to limit walks.
Duke Newcomb will face Cubs righty hurler Kyle Hendricks. As this is the fourth game of the season for both teams, it is obviously the first start of the year for both pitcher. It’s a tale of two extremes, as Newcomb’s control issues are well documented, while Hendricks’ walk rate in 2018 was under 1.99 per nine innings.
The Braves will still have a losing record regardless of tonight’s outcome, but being 1-3 sounds a lot better than 0-4. Hopefully, with a bit of extra juju from the home crowd, the Braves will hang one on the Cubs and finally get into the win column.
If you are feeling under-prepared for tonight’s matchup, or if you really like seeing Sean Newcomb’s name written out a bunch of times, feel free to click either of the links provided below. His name is prominently featured in both, so you really can’t go wrong.
This is the first meaningful game the Braves have played on a Monday since last October 8, the day they were eliminated from the NLDS by the Dodgers. Cheers!
