Braves turn to Wright as they look to even series with Mets

Kyle Wright will look to keep the Mets in the ballpark on Friday, which has proven to be considerably tougher this season than in years past.

The Braves dropped the opening game of a four-game series with the Mets on Thursday, as homers by Amed Rosario and Pete Alonso aided them in taking over sole possession of the division lead with a 6-3 win. On Friday, the Braves will send Kyle Wright to mound as they look to re-gain the momentum they built while winning seven of their previous previous eight games.

Wright has made two starts thus far, with his most recent coming against the Marlins in Atlanta. That performance began with Wright cruising through four innings before a pair of solo homers allowed the Marlins to tie the game in the fifth. Wright did complete six innings in that game, and showcased his electric stuff, sitting around 96 MPH with his fastball for most of the evening. The 23-year-old will carry a 4.35 ERA into Friday’s contest as he looks to earn his first career win.

Opposing Wright for the Mets will be right-hander and Georgia native Zack Wheeler. The 28-year-old has been really bad to begin the season, with both of his starts coming against the Nationals. The most recent outing came on Sunday, when Wheeler was chased from the game in the fifth inning after allowing seven earned runs while walking seven. With so many patient approaches throughout the Braves lineup, making Wheeler throw strikes could be a priority early on.

Notably, one particular Brave has absolutely owned Wheeler throughout his career:

Given that Wheeler is right-handed, the Braves lineup will be one worth monitoring tonight. Ender Inciarte has been the preferred option atop the order for Brian Snitker in the early going, but his ineffectiveness thus far could force Snitker to reconsider. We will have the lineups posted when they are announced, so stay tuned.
