Carle goes back to Gwinnett to make room for Soroka

One and done for the righty reliever.

Happy Mike Soroka 2019 debut day. Unless you’re Shane Carle, who’s being optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett for the second time this month to make room for Soroka on the 25-man roster.

Carle made one appearance since his recall, which came earlier in the Braves’ current series against the Diamondbacks. He pitched a scoreless inning but allowed two walks, and only escaped because a runner was thrown out at third trying to take an extra pitch on a ball that bounced away from the catcher. As a result, his season pitching triple-slash in the majors is an even uglier 9.64/13.60/10.01, but he’ll surely be back up at some point later as the Braves need another right-handed reinforcement from their bullpen.

Mike Soroka, of course, is the big news today and will taking the hill around noontime. The Canadian right-hander wasn’t as sharp in his two rust-shaking starts in Triple-A so far as he was previously, but they were mostly tune-ups anyway. If he’s healthy and ready to go, it could be an exciting afternoon for the Braves.
