Atlanta endured a late rain delay and fell to the Cincinnati Reds 4-2 Thursday night. Atlanta dropped 2 of 3 in Cincinnati and finished their road trip with a 3-3 record. They will open a seven-game homestand on Friday against Colorado.
Brian Snitker talked about the impending return of reliever Jonny Venters and told MLB.com’s Mark Bowman that he plans to use Venters as a situational lefty when he returns.
“He’s a matchup guy pretty much,” Snitker said. “So, it’s got to be the right situation. We weren’t in good runs when he was here with the lineups we were facing. But that being said, I think we can rough him up a little more than what we have because he’s healthy and he’s throwing good.”
Rome Braves outfielder Trey Harris is off to a good start this season and is a prospect to keep an eye on in 2019.
Injuries have forced the Braves to juggle their rotation and bullpen at the start of the season but Brian Snitker and company have done a pretty good job handling the adversity.
Reds announcer Chris Welsh spoke with Ozzie Albies on Thursday and apologized for comments that he made during Wednesday’s broadcast. Welsh was discussing Albies’ recent contract extension and the criticism associated with it saying that “Albies might not know the difference between $35 million and $85 million.”
The number of players on the Yankees’ injured list continues to grow. The team placed outfielder Clint Frazier on the 10-day injured list on Thursday because of an ankle injury.
Frazier’s injury led the Yankees to acquire veteran outfielder Cameron Maybin from the Cleveland Indians who was immediately added to the major league roster.
Major League Baseball issued a two-game suspension to Mets reliever Jacob Rhame on Thursday for intentionally throwing at Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins. Rhame sailed two pitches over the head of Hoskins during the ninth inning of Tuesday’s game.
