Braves activate Kevin Gausman, option Shane Carle to Gwinnett

Gausman will make his 2019 season debut tonight against the Marlins

As expected, the Atlanta Braves activated right-hander Kevin Gausman from the injured list on Friday. He will make his season debut in tonight’s series opener against the Marlins. To make room on the active roster, Atlanta optioned right-hander Shane Carle to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Gausman pitched well for the Braves down the stretch last season but was slowed this spring by a sore shoulder that caused him to begin the season on the injured list. He made 10 starts for the Braves down the stretch last season posting a 2.87 ERA (3.78 FIP) in 59 2/3 innings. Gausman got off to a rough start during the spring but turned in a good showing in his final spring training start and has been ramping up his activity while looking healthy.

Carle got off to a strong start in Atlanta in 2018 but struggled down the stretch. He has appeared in three games this season allowing three hits and five earned runs in just 3 2/3 innings.
