The Braves are closing in on the top NL spot after last night’s solid win behind Dallas Keuchel and Josh Donaldson. Today they will look to get even closer on the back of Julio Teheran.
Teheran is having a good season statistically with a 3.75 ERA over 100 innings. His FIP and xFIP leave something to be desired, but Teheran routinely outperforms his peripheral stats so this season is no anomaly. His biggest strength has been his ability to keep the ball inside the park more often this season. Teheran was among the leagues worst in home runs allowed last season.
For the Padres, young Joey Lucchesi will be on the mound. He too is having a decent season with a 3.94 ERA. The second year man is stingy with walks so the Braves will likely need to have their bats at full strength tonight for this test. Lucchesi started 26 games for the Padres last season and compiled 145 strikeouts in 130 innings pitched which is quite good to say the least.
The Braves have absolutely caught fire of late and for the first time in awhile are a top 5 team in the MLB power rankings. The Padres are fourth in the NL West bloodbath, but are very much in the running for a wildcard spot and have plenty to play for.
This should be a fun matchup and this time the game is at a decent-ish hour so make sure to tune in!
