Cervelli shines in first game with Braves

The Braves are Mets were back at it Saturday night with another fun pitching match up set to occur.

Zack Wheeler was the first man up, and was also the first man to run into some trouble. Both pitchers made it through the first inning unscathed, but Wheeler walked two Braves consecutively in front of Francisco Cervelli who promptly deposited a two-run double into the left field corner. Both runners came around to score and the Braves found themselves up 2-0 early on.

Atlanta continued to add on in the third inning when Ozzie Albies and Josh Donaldson sent solo shots into the seats. The Braves soon found themselves up 4-0, and cruising.

Until they weren’t anymore.

Like clockwork the Mets immediately began to work in the bottom of the third with a Juan Lagares double to lead off the inning followed up by an RBI-single from Joe Panik later in the inning. Max Fried was able to cut the bleeding off at 4-1, but the action soon picked up again.

In the bottom of the fifth Lagares doubled again and was singled home by Amed Rosario to pull the Mets within two. Then New York took their first lead of the game as Pete Alonso hit a Fried fastball out to deep center field to give the Mets a 5-4 lead.

The Braves finally responded in the fifth inning when Cervelli smoked a ball down the left field line again, but was credited with a two base error instead of a hit. The next batter was Rafael Ortega who blooped a single to right that tied the game at five.

Then Atlanta had their biggest knock of the night in the top of the eighth inning when Ronald Acuna Jr. lined a two run single into left field that broke the tie and gave the Braves a 7-5 lead.

The Braves tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth thanks to Freddie Freeman’s 35th homer and another RBI double from Cervelli that scored Culberson who walked after Freeman’s homer.

With the Braves up 9-5 Shane Greene got the final three outs and Atlanta extended their win streak and take the series win from the Mets. The Braves will try for the sweep tomorrow. Stay tuned.
