The Braves threatened on multiple occasions late in the game, but were unable to catch the Phillies, who led throughout en route to a 9-5 win. Julio Teheran and Anthony Swarzak each struggled mightily, while the offense came up short of tying the game in the eighth inning before Philadelphia extended their lead to ice the victory.
The Braves placed one left-hander on the IL while activating another on Thursday, as AJ Minter will miss the remainder of the season with shoulder inflammation. Grant Dayton will take his place in the bullpen down the stretch.
Freddie Freeman turned 30 on Thursday. Shawn offers some respect to the franchise cornerstone with a well-deserved homage celebrating Freeman’s career in Atlanta.
In terms of career numbers for past and present Braves before the age of 30, Freeman’s name is found in the top ten of almost every offensive category. Freeman is 6th in games played, 4th in runs, 4th in hits, 2nd in doubles, 4th in walks, 4th in RBIs, and 6th in home runs. His offensive production has resulted in a career total of 34.9 offensive WAR produced in his 20’s, the fifth highest mark in franchise history.
