Sights and sounds from the Braves’ division title celebration.
It has been a storybook season for the Atlanta Braves in many ways as they have overcome a rash of injuries in the second half to clinch their second straight division title. Outfielder Nick Markakis reflected on this season with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Gabe Burns prior to Friday’s game and said that this Braves team may be the best team he has ever played on.
“This team right here is as good as any team I’ve played on, could possibly be the best team I’ve played on,” Markakis said. “Just the mixture of guys we have on this team. We’re all confident in ourselves. We’re confident in each other. Confidence can take you a long way. So the confidence factor is there. The grit is there. Everything is there right now. It’s just a matter of putting it together on the big stage.”
Ketel Marte’s season is over as the Diamondbacks will shut him down for the final week of the season due to a stress reaction in his back. Marte won’t need surgery and he should be ready for spring training.
The Houston Astros activated reliever Ryan Pressly on Friday. Pressly has been out for the last four weeks after knee surgery. He will return with enough time to get in a couple of games before the postseason.
No major league manager has been fired this season but that likely won’t hold when the season comes to a close. One skipper that may be in trouble is Padres manager Andy Green who is reportedly on the hot streak after another disappointing season.
