With the division clinched, the Atlanta Braves will now focus on preparing themselves for the postseason. While they likely won’t give their regulars extended rest over the final seven games, it is likely that several do see off days this weekend. We will have to wait to see what Saturday’s lineup against the Giants looks like.
Max Fried is scheduled to start for Atlanta and will be looking to bounce back from a pair of subpar outings. Fried had everything working back on September 5 when he allowed just one hit and struck out nine over seven shutout innings against the Nationals. Things have come apart in his last two starts where he has allowed a combined 13 hits and 10 earned runs in just 7 1/3 innings. Washington battered him for six hits and five runs in just 2 1/3 innings this past Sunday.
Fried’s spot in the postseason rotation is probably safe given his body of work this season but another struggle today could add some doubt to that.
San Francisco will counter with right-hander Johnny Cueto who will be making just his third start of the season after recovering from Tommy John surgery. The early results have been good for Cueto who has yet to allow a run in a pair of five inning outings against the Pirates and the Marlins.
First pitch from SunTrust Park is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET and can be seen on Fox Sports South.
