Max Fried returns to form in 8-1 win over Giants

Francisco Cervelli and Adam Duvall both homered while Max Fried returned to form on the mound to help the Atlanta Braves to an 8-1 win over the San Francisco Giants. Atlanta improves to 96-60 on the season and notches win No. 50 at SunTrust Park this season.

Snitker: Winning division ‘not good enough’; winning ‘whole thing’ realistic

While the Braves may have just been happy to reach the postseason in 2018 there is certainly a different message being relayed this go around. Manager Brian Snitker upped the ante telling The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Tim Tucker that winning the division isn’t good enough.

“Our first goal was to win the East, and we did, but that’s not good enough,” manager Brian Snitker said Saturday at SunTrust Park before the team’s game against the Giants. “These guys here know we’re capable of a lot more than that. he goal now is the big prize,” Snitker said, referring to the World Series championship. “We feel like we have a team that can do that. We’re deep enough, we’re strong enough, that I think that’s a realistic goal -- to not just want to get in (the playoffs), but to win the whole thing.”

Padres dismiss manager Andy Green

The first manager has fallen. The San Diego Padres announced on Saturday that they have dismissed manager Andy Green. Bench coach Rod Barajas will serve as interim manager for the remainder of the season. San Diego went 274-366 under Green during his four seasons at the helm.

Senzel to undergo surgery on right shoulder

Reds rookie Nick Senzel will undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder Tuesday. He had already been ruled out for the remainder of the season. A timetable for his return will be established after the surgery. Senzel made his major league debut on May 3 and hit .256/.315/.427 with 12 homers in 104 games.

MLB testing ‘robot umps’ at AFL games

Major League Baseball is once again using the Arizona Fall League as a testing ground. This year’s big experiment is an automated strike zone where each pitch is read electronically and then relayed to the home plate umpire behind the plate.

Gleyber’s hamstring MRI comes back negative

An MRI on Gleyber Torres’ hamstring came back negative but he will likely see a reduced workload over the final week of the season.
