Braves vs. Blue Jays, September 3, 2019: Game Thread & Discussion

Another day, another opportunity to pad the division lead and reduce the magic number

Before the Braves can turn their attention to this weekend’s high-profile series against the Washington Nationals, they must first take care of business against a Toronto Blue Jays team that occupies fourth place in the American League East.

Mike Foltynewicz will take the ball for the Braves, and Wilmer Font will serve as Toronto’s opener. This will be the second time each pitcher has faced the opposition in the last week, though they did not start against each other during last week’s Toronto half of this two-and-two series. Neither pitcher factored in their respective decisions - for Font this was by design; for Folty it was by way of under-performance.

Folty will seek redemption against a Blue Jays offense that is littered with potential stars; Font will try and replicate his performance against a team this is already filled with them. It would be nice to see Ronald Acuña, Jr. get back on track in his quest for a 40/40 season; possibly he can go yard against Font to start the festivities adequately, and re-establish his dominance.

If you’ve read this far, hopefully you’ll read a bit farther - it would be our pleasure to host a slew of your thoughts in our comments section this evening. Regale us with anecdotes about your baseball acumen and how you are better suited than Brian Snitker and Charlie Montoyo to lead these two teams. We’d love to hear it! And, even if you’ve already read the preview and lineup posts we assembled for you, you might want to keep these links handy just in case.
