The Braves and Nats will be back in action tonight for a pivotal game three of this series that could net Atlanta their biggest series win of the season to date. Washington has had no answer offensively for Max Fried or Dallas Keuchel so far, and we’ll hope that continues this evening with Julio Teheran on the mound.
Teheran will now face Austin Voth after Joe Ross was scratched due to forearm pain during his last bullpen session. Voth has only pitched 23 innings this season for the Nationals, but has been mildly effective with a 3.91 ERA and 4.00 FIP. At AAA, where Voth has spent most of his time this season, he owns a 4.40 ERA over 61.1 innings.
Teheran has been worth more wins in this season alone than he was worth in 2017-18 combined. His ERA is a shiny 3.38 although his FIP is 4.34. However, it is important to note that Teheran has always outperformed his peripheral stats. Strikeouts and walks have been virtually the same for Teheran this season, but his ability to limit the torrid home run pace that he had last season has really saved him in 2019.
The first two games of this series have been nail biters so far, but the Braves have really shown some great resolve to pull off two impressive wins against the best team in baseball since May 24th.
Now, the Braves own that moniker and they’ll look to defend that crown this evening when they take the field looking for their ninth straight victory while taking the magic number down to 11. Stay tuned.
