The Atlanta Braves will try again to punch their ticket to the World Series when they square off with the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6 of the NLCS. Atlanta leads 3-2 after Friday’s 7-3 loss. The Braves got an excellent performance from A.J. Minter who made his first career start and struck out seven in just three innings. Atlanta led 2-1 in the sixth before Will Smith homered off Will Smith to give the Dodgers the lead for good.
Game 6 will feature a rematch of the pitching matchup from Game 1 between Atlanta’s Max Fried and Los Angeles righty Walker Buehler. Fried was excellent in Game 1 allowing four hits and one run over six innings. He struck out nine and walked two. Buehler allowed just three hits and one run over five innings but struggled with his command while issuing a season-high five walks to go along with seven strikeouts.
The Braves put the pressure on the Dodgers early on in Game 5 by grinding out at-bats while being aggressive on the base paths. They were unable to keep that going through the middle innings. They will need to make Buehler work early on and try to get to the Dodgers’ bullpen as quickly as they can.
Atlanta used six relievers in Game 5 but fell behind and were able to avoid using Chris Martin and Mark Melancon.
