This Day in Braves History: December 16
1938 - The Bees trade catcher Ray Mueller to the Pirates for Al Todd and Johnny Dickshot. Todd would be traded to Brooklyn in March and Dickshot would be dealt to the Giants in April. Mueller would appear in only 90 games for the Pirates over the next two seasons.
2009 - Former Braves reliever Mike Gonzalez signs with the Orioles. In three seasons with Atlanta, Gonzalez posted a 2.81 ERA in 134 games and recorded 26 saves.
2013 - The Braves signed right-hander Gavin Floyd to a one-year deal. He would make nine starts for the Braves posting a 2.65 ERA and a 3.79 FIP in 54 1/3 innings.
2017 - Atlanta acquires first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, infielder Charlie Culberson, left-hander Scott Kazmir and right-hander Brandon McCarthy in exchange for outfielder Matt Kemp in what was the first move for new GM Alex Anthopoulos. The move was essentially a swap of bad salaries but it allowed the Braves to get out from under Kemp’s deal. Gonzalez would be released right after the trade was announced. Kazmir was dropped during spring training. McCarthy made 15 starts in 2018 before ending the season on the injured list. Culberson looked like a throw in for the deal but ended up making the biggest impact appearing in 230 games over the last three seasons.
