While it is probably best not to read to much into spring training numbers, the Atlanta Braves had to be pleased with the performance of Kyle Wright. Wright was solid allowing seven hits and just three runs over 13 1/3 innings while striking out 15 and walking just three. He was one of 10 players recognized by MLB.com writer Matt Kelly for his spring performance.
It will be interesting to see how the Braves handle Wright with the season delayed. There was talk of placing Wright at Gwinnett to start but the truncated schedule might could open the door. At any rate, Wright looked like he was ready to take a step forward and should play a significant part with the Braves at some point this season.

I probably don’t need to remind everyone but the last time Major League Baseball played an abbreviated season was in 1995 which ended well for all fans of the Atlanta Braves. On that note, Gabe Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution talked with former Braves pitching coach Leo Mazzone on the challenges of getting pitchers ready for a shortened season.
We continued our post Spring Training roundtable on Saturday with a look at the biggest surprises of the Grapefruit League season.
MLB News
Major League Baseball and the Player’s Association continue to discuss adjustments in pay, service time and other areas that would occur in a shortened season. While both sides want to play as many games as possible, the discussion of service time is a stumbling block according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal. Rosenthal spoke with Agent Seth Levinson who said service time is a vital issue to the players because of its importance in the game’s pay structure. While both sides have something to lose in this situation, it is the players who would suffer the most.
“Service time equates to a year in a player’s career,” Levinson said. “MLB has a stranglehold over both the entry and exit dates of a player’s career, and the length of that career has continually grown shorter. In the worst-case scenario, both sides will have suffered substantial losses; however, it is the players who will suffer the most significant damage with the irretrievable loss of a precious year of their careers.”
