The Braves have gotten impressive performances from a number of players this spring, with multiple non-roster invitees announcing their presence early on. On Wednesday, journeyman Peter O’Brien was the unsung hero, blasting two monster home runs to aid the Braves in their 9-7 win over the Pirates. O’Brien has always been praised for his power, and he certainly displayed it on his first homer, which left the entire stadium.
In addition to O’Brien’s heroics on Wednesday, the Braves have also seen Felix Hernandez, Chris Nunn, and Chris Rusin impress on the mound. All three entered as darkhorse roster candidates, but have garnered attention thus far with their camp performances. Rusin has been especially impressive while tossing six scoreless innings. None of these three have been guaranteed anything to this point, but have certainly not damaged their chances of breaking camp with the big club. Stay tuned as camp battles continue over the next three weeks.

As noted above, Peter O’Brien was the hero in this one along with minor league lifer Sean Kazmar. Mike Soroka got the start and allowed three runs in the third inning, though he was very impressive in his first two innings of work.
