The Daily Chop: Shin-Soo Choo makes heartening gesture to Rangers minor leaguers

The veteran outfielder will reportedly make a sizable donation to less-fortunate members of the organization.

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays at Texas Rangers Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

It was reported on Wednesday by multiple sources that Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo would be donating $1,000 to each of the 190 minor leaguers in the organization. Given the lack of adequate pay in a typical minor league season, the absence of reliable income during the suspension of play has been a major storyline during this extended offseason. Choo’s donation to these players is certainly an inspiring gesture, and hopefully will spawn a trend around the league. Players taking care of other players is not something that should be necessary given the exorbitant dollar figures that owners could pledge, but the fact that Choo is willing to overlook any outside factors and simply help out his fellow men is just an incredible credit to his character. Choo is worthy of praise for his playing career alone, but this sort of gesture should make him very popular around the league, especially among his colleagues.
