The owners made another low-ball offer on Monday, accomplishing absolutely nothing in the pursuit of peace with the MLBPA. This offer included a 76 game season that would pay the players 75% of their prorated salary. The owners did offer an increased playoff share to players, but the concession of prorated salary is a non-starter in all negotiations.
The Braves are projected to take Duke RHP Bryce Jarvis by FanGraphs.
We’ve discussed Bryce Jarvis before. He was a control pitcher that had a 50 FV fastball his sophomore year with average breakers and above average to plus change. Jarvis then went to Driveline and saw his velo jump about 5 mph while seeing a big improvement to his slider and curve. Now he has four pitches that grade above average to plus. Even with the jump in velo, he has maintained his top notch control.
Check out the draft preview from Sparhawk. Rumors have circulated that Atlanta may go all high school, which would be a departure from their draft strategy last year.
Mark Bowman also previews the draft and considers how the Braves could operate on Wednesday.
Who might they take?
MLB Pipeline’s latest mock draft has the Braves taking Texas Tech right-hander Clayton Beeter with their first-round pick. In earlier mock drafts, Mayo and Callis had predicted this pick would be used on either University of Miami right-hander Chris McMahon or Auburn right-hander Tanner Burns. Another college hurler who might fit in this spot is South Carolina right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski.
