This Day in Braves History: August 10

1944 - Red Barrett only needs 58 pitches to shut out the Cincinnati Reds 2-0. The 58 pitches is a major league record and the game takes just one hour, 15 minutes.

1991 - The game between the Astros and Braves is delayed for five minutes when a moth becomes lodged in the ear of Houston outfielder Mike Simms. The Braves win 4-0 when the game is finally completed.

1996 - The Braves overcome a seven run deficit but fall 9-7 as Andres Galarraga and Vinny Castilla hit back-to-back homers off of Mark Wohlers in the 10th.

1997 - Greg Maddux signs a five-year, $57.5 million deal with the Braves to become baseball’s highest-paid player.

2003 - Rafael Furcal becomes the 12th player to turn an unassisted triple play in big league history.

2013 - The Marlins end the Braves’ 14-game winning streak as Adeiny Hechavarria scores the game’s only run on a wild pitch by Jordan Walden in the 9th.
