Touki takes the mound for the Braves against the always dangerous Yankees

The Braves are going to have their hands full in the Bronx.

MLB: New York Mets at Atlanta Braves Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

With the Braves’ rotation reeling from the losses of Mike Soroka, Mike Foltynewicz, and well...just about everyone not named Max Fried, Touki Toussaint came up for the Braves in a big way against the Blue Jays in his last start. Touki pitched into the seventh inning and struck out nine in a dominating performance that gave the Braves hope that he could cement a spot in the Braves rotation that many had long hoped he would occupy. Atlanta is going to need him to be on because this Yankees lineup, even though it isn’t at full strength, is still pretty scary.

It certainly doesn’t hurt the Braves chances that both Ronald Acuna Jr. and Freddie Freeman seem to be shaking off their early season doldrums and look like two guys that could carry the Braves if need be. The bullpen also looks to continue their good work because, outside of the batting practice that newcomer Robbie Erlin was throwing last night, this still looks like one of the better bullpens in baseball.

On the Yankees side, they will be starting Jordan Montgomery who got knocked around by the Phillies a bit in his last start. Montgomery has been with the Yankees since 2017 although he barely pitched at all over the last two seasons due to undergoing Tommy John surgery. While the Braves will have to deal with the monster that is Aaron Judge during this two game set, they will not have to deal with Giancarlo Stanton who is nursing a hamstring injury on the injured list.
