Ronald Acuña Jr. will be out through the weekend and be evaluated again on Monday as he recovers from wrist inflammation, Braves manager Brian Snitker announced on Wednesday night.
Acuña’s wrist first began bothering him before Tuesday’s game in the Bronx as he sat out both games. He went for additional testing on Wednesday and fortunately no structural damage was found after undergoing an MRI. At this time the Braves hope he will avoid a stint on the Injured List.
Obviously, the long-term health of Acuña’s wrist is the priority and we can only hope a few days off is enough to get his wrist back to 100%. The Braves have an ugly history of wrist injuries — including Ozzie Albies, who is currently on the Injured List — and the last thing they need to do in a shortened 60-game season is rush him back.
The Braves are off on Thursday before beginning a three-game series in Miami.
