Kyle Wright, Braves look to snap skid against Marlins

The Atlanta Braves will make their final stop on their nine-game road trip when they open up a three-game set with the Miami Marlins on Friday. Atlanta has lost three straight and are just 2-4 on their trip after suffering a two-game sweep at the hands of the New York Yankees. The Braves enjoyed their first scheduled off day of the season on Thursday and will enter this weekend’s series with an 11-9 record.

Kyle Wright will be making his fourth start of the season for Atlanta and is looking to put it all together. Wright has shown flashes over his first three starts but with varying degrees of success. He allowed six hits and four runs over six innings in his last start against the Phillies. All four of those runs came in the fourth inning on a pair of home runs. He issued three more walks giving him a total of 10 over his first 12 innings. Fastball command has been Wright’s biggest issue and the Braves need him to be aggressive and pound the strikezone.

The Marlins will counter with right-hander Pablo Lopez who is off to a good start this season. Lopez will be making his third start of the season. He allowed five hits and two earned runs in five innings in his last start against the Mets. Lopez has never beaten Atlanta despite posting a 3.54 ERA in five career starts.

The injury bug continues to bite the Braves as Ronald Acuña Jr. will sit out the entire series in Miami due to a wrist injury. Acuña had his wrist examined while the team was in New York and tests revealed just inflammation. Atlanta is hoping that he will be able to return after three more days of rest. The team is also without second baseman Ozzie Albies and DH Matt Adams who are both on the injured list. Albies is dealing with a sore wrist of his own while Adams has a hamstring strain.

Atlanta went 15-4 against the Marlins in 2019 and are 29-9 over the last two seasons.
