This Day in Braves History: August 24
1954 - The Braves finally knock out Phillies ace Robin Roberts who is lifted in the seventh inning of a 5-1 loss. Roberts had thrown 13 straight complete games against the Braves over three seasons while posting a 12-1 record.
1957 - Milwaukee defeats the Dodgers 13-7 as Hank Aaron hits the first grand slam of his career. The Dodgers tie a National League record by using eight pitchers in the game.
1969 - Hank Aaron hits a three-run homer in the 14th inning to give the Braves a 4-1 win over the Cardinals. Catchers Bob Didier and Tim McCarver throw out six runners in the game.
1971 - Braves outfielder Rico Carty announces he has suffered permanent damage to his right eye from an altercation with three policeman in Atlanta. Our own Darryl Palmer profiled Carty for the site earlier this year.
1975 - Lou Brock records the 800th stolen base of his career against the Braves.
1996 - Fred McGriff cranks out five hits including a double and two home runs in a 6-5 win over the Cubs.
