Nick Markakis is back with the Braves after a COVID-19 scare last week. To make room for him, Cristian Pache was optioned to the club’s alternate training site at Gwinnett.
Markakis was placed on the injured list last week after a possible exposure to someone who tested positive for COVID-19. Fortunately he never tested positive or showed any symptoms, but the Braves opted to be cautious and not risk an exposure to other players. Markakis is back in the Braves lineup on Tuesday night, batting sixth.
To make room for Markakis, Pache was sent down after a very brief stint with the big league club. This did not come as a major surprise as it appears the Braves promoted Pache last week only as outfield insurance. It’s a shame Pache wasn’t given more of an opportunity, but his time will come soon enough.
The Braves and Yankees are set for a 7:10 p.m. ET first pitch this evening assuming the rain holds off. Ian Anderson will make his debut against Gerrit Cole.
