Ozzie Albies was out of the lineup for the second time in three games Sunday as the Braves have decided that they will occasionally rest him due to a sore right wrist. The injury isn’t thought to be serious and although he has felt some discomfort over the past week, the team has not seen a need to get an MRI exam.
“I think if we can manage this thing over a period of time,” Brian Snitker said. “We can get it taken care of if we can just lighten the workload a little bit. It’s just uncomfortable more than anything,” Snitker added. “I just don’t want it to become more of something.”
Adeiny Hechavarria has started both games at second base in Albies’ absence.

Atlanta’s bullpen combined for 5 2/3 scoreless innings on Sunday to help the team secure a 4-0 win over the New York Mets. Atlanta has now won five-straight games and are 7-3 on the season.
Sunday’s game featured a bit of drama for the Mets when Yoenis Cespedes failed to report to the ballpark in time for Sunday’s game. The team reportedly sent staff to Cespedes’ hotel room to check on him and found it empty. The Mets announced after the game that Cespedes was healthy and safe but had decided to opt out of the 2020 season.

More bad news for Major League Baseball. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported Sunday afternoon that the St. Louis Cardinals have multiple new positive results for the coronavirus within the organization.
The Cincinnati Reds placed first baseman Joey Votto on the injured list Sunday. Votto was reportedly experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, though he has yet to test positive for the virus.
Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant was out of the lineup for the second straight game due to stomach issues which he reported to the team prior to Saturday’s game against the Pirates. Bryant has had multiple COVID-19 tests come back negative but remains in the MLB’s protocol.
Mike Trout was placed on the restricted list Sunday but it was merely a procedural move as he is expected to fly with the club to Seattle Monday and then return to the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Mariners. Trout was away from the team for the birth of his first child.
The Mets also had some non-Cespedes news on Sunday acquiring outfielder Billy Hamilton from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for right-hander Jordan Humphreys. New York also activated right-hander Jared Hughes and transferred veteran infielder Jed Lowrie to the 45-day injured list.
Finally, Tigers pitcher Tyler Alexander tied an American League record by striking out nine consecutive batters in Sunday’s matchup against the Reds. Alexander needed one more strikeout to tie the Major League record of 10 held by Tom Seaver but hit Mike Moustakas with a pitch to end the streak.
