Braves vs. Mets, August 3, 2020: Game Thread & Discussion

A Braves win would further demoralize the Mets, which is always fine

MLB: Arizona Diamondbacks at Atlanta Braves Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Much has been made about the need for teams to start hot during the shortened 2020 season, as the luxury of time will not be present to offset a slow start. With the Braves seeking an 8-3 record, they have avoided digging themselves an early hole.

A victory tonight would be the Braves’ sixth consecutive win, and would stake them to a two-game lead over the still-idle Miami Marlins.

The last time Mike Soroka and Jacob deGrom faced each other, it was Opening Day and the Mets emerged victorious, 1-0. Neither pitcher factored into the decision, as both threw a scoreless outing and left the bullpens in charge. Maybe tonight, we’ll get something high-scoring. Like 2-1.

Moods tend to be better and spirits are usually higher when the Braves are in a winning streak, so come pour some of your positivity into the comments thread tonight. Whether you are a casual fan, stats nerd, or somewhere in between, there’s a place for you in the game thread.

As a last minute study guide, here is some supplemental information related to tonight’s game:
