Given the uncertainty of the 2020 season in general, it was unsure what exactly the trade deadline might look like. However, if Sunday was any indication, then you may want to buckle up as we wind down the hours to the 4 p.m. Monday deadline. The Braves added one new starter on Sunday but are reportedly in discussions to do something much bigger.
Atlanta is reportedly one of several teams that are involved in trade discussions for Indians right-hander Mike Clevinger. While the Braves were watching a 10-run lead against the Phillies evaporate, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported that Atlanta was making an aggressive push for Clevinger with discussions centering around outfield prospect Drew Waters per MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.
With several teams chasing Clevinger, the Indians will let things play out closer to the deadline. The Braves have the prospect capital to get a deal done with Cleveland if they choose. Clevinger is under team control through the 2022 season and would help a battered rotation not only this season but the next two as well. The price won’t be cheap and Alex Anthopoulos has been reluctant to deal any of Atlanta’s top prospects since taking over as GM. Is this the time? Is Clevinger the right player for the Braves to cash in some of their prospect capital for? We will find out Monday.

Atlanta got Sunday rolling acquiring veteran left-hander Tommy Milone from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for two players to be named later. Milone isn’t a difference maker per say, but is capable and should help eat some innings which is something that Atlanta has been sorely lacking.
The Braves didn’t waste any time in penciling in Milone to start Sunday’s series finale against the Phillies. Things got off to a great start as Atlanta scored 10 runs in the second inning but saw that lead disappear quickly as Philadelphia battered Milone for seven runs in just 2 1/3 innings. The Braves were able to hold on for a 12-10 win but the game served as a reminder that more rotation help is needed.
Ronald Acuña Jr. left Sunday’s game with tightness in his right hamstring. Brian Snitker said that the move was precautionary but that they would wait and see how he feels after traveling to Boston before commenting on his status for Monday’s game.
To make room for Milone on the active roster, the Braves designated first baseman/DH Matt Adams for assignment. Adams has struggled at the plate this season hitting .184/.216/.347 with two homers in 51 plate appearances.
Hot Stove heats up
The San Diego Padres acquired first baseman Mitch Moreland from the Boston Red Sox for prospects Jeisson Rosario and Hudson Potts. In a separate deal, the Padres acquired catcher Jason Castro from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for reliever Gerardo Reyes. San Diego was also part of a seven-player deal with the Seattle Mariners that saw catcher Austin Nola and relievers Austin Adams and Dan Altavilla head to the Padres. San Diego is sending outfield prospect Taylor Trammell, infielder Ty France, catcher Luis Torrens and reliever Andres Munoz to the Mariners to complete the deal.
The Chicago Cubs acquired outfielder Jose Martinez from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for two players to be named later.
The Colorado Rockies added a big piece to their bullpen acquiring reliever Mychal Givens from the Orioles for prospects Tyler Kevin and Terrin Vavra.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have gone 1-10 over their last 11 games and are reportedly ready to listen to offers for outfielder Starling Marte and reliever Archie Bradley.
