Atlanta Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos met with the media on Tuesday and acknowledged that he had explored trade discussions even before Mike Soroka was lost for the remainder of the season, but said nothing was close to fruition. Making a trade in the current environment of uncertainty with expanded playoffs is going to be difficult.
“Today the likelihood is we’ll stay internal,” Anthopoulos said, “but we will continue to inquire and see if we can line up on a deal.”
Anthopoulos usually plays things close to the vest so it isn’t unusual that he would be unwilling to give up any information. Still, it is worth questioning what the trade market will look like in his shortened season.

The Braves made a couple of roster moves Tuesday in an effort to get some fresh arms into the bullpen. The team recalled right-handers Chad Sobotka an Huascar Ynoa. To make room on the active roster, the team placed Soroka on the 45-day injured list and designated left-hander Chris Rusin for assignment.
Also some news that might help the Braves as they try replace Soroka. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that MLB rosters will drop to 28 on Thursday but will then stay at that number for the remainder of the season. Rosters were initially expected to be reduced to 26 after the first month of the season.

After a short delay, the Miami Marlins were finally cleared to play against the Baltimore Orioles. The game was scheduled to begin at 7:35 p.m. ET but was delayed as they awaited some final test results. Tuesday was Miami’s first game since July 26.
Yadier Molina and Paul DeJong were among seven Cardinals players that tested positive for COVID-19. In all, 13 members of the Cardinals traveling party tested positive.
The Washington Nationals activated outfielder Juan Soto from the injured list Tuesday. Soto was scratched from the Nationals’ Opening Day lineup after he turned up positive.
