The Atlanta Braves announced several roster moves Thursday including the return of reliever Will Smith from the injured list. Smith was one of four players who tested positive for COVID-19 during intake screenings. He was cleared to join camp a little over a week ago and threw to batters earlier this week. Smith was the prized addition of Atlanta’s offseason after agreeing to a three-year, $40 million deal in free agency.
Thursday is also the day that teams around the league must trim from 30 active players to 28. To make room for Smith on the roster, Atlanta optioned reliever Chad Sobotka and Alex Jackson. They also designated outfielder Scott Schebler for assignment to open a 40-man roster spot for Smith.

The Braves acquired Schebler from the Reds a couple of weeks ago for cash. He spent the last week on the active roster but saw just one plate appearance.
Atlanta will wrap up a three-game series with the Blue Jays tonight at Truist Park.
