This Day in Braves History: Dan Uggla extends hitting streak to 28 games

This Day in Braves History: August 7

1972 - Eddie Matthews takes over as Braves manager following the dismissal of Lum Harris. The Braves fall to the Reds 9-1 in his first game on the bench.

1973 - The Braves acquire Joe Niekro from the Tigers. Joe will appear in 47 games for the Braves between 1973 and 1974 while posting a 3.76 ERA in 67 innings.

1991 - Deion Sanders begins to pull double duty practicing for the Atlanta Falcons while also on the Braves roster.

2001 - Greg Maddux sets a National League record for consecutive innings without allowing a walk.

2011 - Dan Uggla extends his hitting streak to 28 games with an 8th inning single in a 6-5 win over the Mets. In the same game, Freddie Freeman has his hitting streak snapped at 20-straight after going 0-for-4. Chipper Jones drives in the winning run in the 9th.

2015 - The Braves acquire outfielders Michael Bourn and Nick Swisher form the Cleveland Indians in exchange for Chris Johnson.
