Injuries have derailed Cole Hamels’ debut for the Atlanta Braves but things could finally be headed in the right direction. Hamels is progressing through his throwing program and is currently throwing from 105-120 feet according to a report by Fox Sports’ Kelly Crull. Hamels is hoping to throw a bullpen next week.

Hamels arrived at Spring Training with a sore shoulder and never threw a pitch before the shutdown. He arrived at summer camp and was slowed by triceps soreness and was placed on the 45-day injured list to start the season. He won’t be eligible to return until the first week of September.

The Braves may not want to count on Hamels’ return, but he could provide a lift for a starting rotation that has been tested early with the loss of Mike Soroka. Obviously, we are still a long way from September so Hamels will need to get through the rest of August without another suffering another injury.
