This Day in Braves History: January 5
1984 - Phil Niekro signs a two-year deal with the New York Yankees which allows them to move Dave Righetti into a relief role. Niekro became a free agent after the Braves released him in October despite posting a 3.97 ERA over 34 starts and 201 2/3 innings for Atlanta in 1983. Niekro would turn in a great season for the Yankees in 1984 going 16-8 with a 3.09 ERA while being named to the American League All-Star team.
2010 - The Braves sign Troy Glaus to a one-year deal to play first base. Glaus would appear in 128 games hitting .240/.344/.400 with 16 home runs.
