MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reported late Saturday night that Atlanta Braves third base coach Ron Washington is “believed to be under consideration” for the Padres vacant managerial position. Washington was the runner up to Jayce Tingler back in 2019.
Ron Washington, who had a couple aggressive and successful sends as Braves 3B coach in today’s 3-0 win, is believed to be among those under consideration for Padres manager. Wash finished 2nd last time Padres hired a manager.

Washington joined Brian Snitker’s coaching staff back in 2016 and has become a beloved and important part of the team’s success. He has done wonderful work with the team’s infielders and has played a big part in the development of many of Atlanta’s young players.
Washington managed the Texas Rangers from 2007 through 2014. He recently said that he still has the itch to manage in a recent interview with XTRA1360 reporter Marty Caswell.
The Braves have been fortunate that they really haven’t experienced a lot of turnover on their coaching staff in any of their four straight division titles. It is not surprising to hear that the Padres may circle back to Washington given his strong pedigree of working with young players.
