The Daily Chop: Notes for Game 3, Morton back in LA, Potential for WS, and more

Charlie Morton is set to take the ball in a pivotal Game 3 that could all but close out the NLCS for Atlanta.

MLB: Milwaukee Brewers at Atlanta Braves Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Charlie Morton has one of the most unique careers in baseball history. His first nine seasons in the major leagues produced mixed results, but everything changed for the right-hander in 2017. Morton signed with the Houston Astros, who made some adjustments and helped the 33-year-old become one of the best pitchers in baseball. Those efforts culminated in a World Series victory that saw Morton pitch the final four innings of Game 7, allowing just one run to the vaulted Dodgers. This performance placed Morton in Astros lore, but also cemented his legacy in Chavez Ravine.

Tonight the 37-year-old will start Game 3 for Atlanta, whose struggles at Dodger Stadium could certainly be helped by the experience of Morton. The Braves have an opportunity to take full control of the series with a victory. Can the veteran deliver another heroic performance in Los Angeles?

Braves ‘better versed’ for NLCS success

After the collapse that crushed their postseason momentum last season, the Braves are now better prepared for the rigors of the NLCS. Their pitching is better and deeper, and their offense is uniquely opportunistic. Even without some key pieces, Atlanta can certainly win this series.

Braves script has been unpredictable. Will it include the unlikeliest ending?

Gabe Burns stops short of predicting a championship, but does broach the possibility. It seems the AJC is filled with believers, as is the entire city.
