Fresh off of a win in Game 3, the Atlanta Braves will try to take a commanding lead over the Houston Astros when the World Series continues Saturday night at Truist Park. Atlanta got a dominant pitching performance from Ian Anderson and their bullpen which carried a no-hitter into the eighth and held the high powered Houston offense to just two hits in the win.
With the win, the Braves extended their home Postseason winning streak to six games. That is the second best mark in franchise history with the record being an eight-game run back in 1995-96.
Atlanta will have a bullpen game in Game 4. That was always going to be the case but the injury to Charlie Morton ramps up the difficulty. Without Morton, the Braves will be looking at potentially another bullpen game Sunday. Brian Snitker said after Friday’s win that the team is going to have to lean on a lot of other guys so expect Drew Smyly, Jesse Chavez and potentially Tucker Davidson and Kyle Wright to have opportunities. Snitker confirmed that the team will use an opener in Game 4 but didn’t disclose who that would be.
The Astros will go with veteran Zack Greinke in Game 4 and Dusty Baker said that they would let him go as far as he can take them. Greinke battled a neck injury down the stretch of the regular season. He has made two appearances during the postseason, one in relief and another as an opener. in those appearances, he has allowed three hits, three walks and two runs in 2 1/3 innings.
The Braves could take the pressure off their bullpen by getting the offense going early. Atlanta managed just six hits and two runs in their Game 3 win. One coming on an RBI double by Austin Riley in the third and the other on a solo homer by Travis d’Arnaud in the eighth.
Eddie Rosario went 1-for-3 with a walk in Game 3 and now has 21 hits this postseason. That is the third best mark in franchise history and trails only Marquis Grissom who had 25 hits in 1995 and 23 hits in 1996.
Saturday’s game is scheduled to begin at 8:09 p.m. ET and can be seen on FOX.
