The Braves DFA’d Jeremy Walker and picked up old friend Travis Demeritte on Waivers today.

Old friend Mark Melancon was also in the news, as he signed a deal with the Padres. Melancon had been an obvious candidate to return, as Atlanta could use another bullpen arm or two, particularly right handers. Shane Greene remains available, and would be a strong option to return to Atlanta.

The Cubs signed Jake Arrieta to a one year deal in the $7 million dollar range.

One tidbit from Jon Heyman regarding the Braves was Heyman listing the Braves among candidates for third baseman Justin Turner. He did list the Dodgers and Brewers as the strongest candidates, with the Braves among teams he regarded as “less likely”. With that being said, Turner has been fantastic offensively for the last number of years, so he would help this Atlanta offense remain among the elite offenses in baseball.

Come discuss these headlines and more with the community as spring training rapidly approaches.
