The Braves have outrighted outfielder Travis Demeritte to Triple-A and removed him from the 40-man roster, potentially clearing a spot for Jake Lamb, who has reportedly agreed to a deal with the club. The 40-man roster currently sits at 39 with Demeritte’s departure.
Atlanta claimed Demeritte off waivers earlier this month. He was expected to compete for a backup outfield job, but with the recent addition of Jason Kipnis and the reported signing of Lamb, his chances decreased significantly. With a minor league option remaining it seems likely Demeritte will serve in an outfield role in Gwinnett and potentially be called upon if needed during the season.
Lamb will need a 40-man roster spot one he passes his physical and the deal becomes official. Lamb has dealt with extensive injuries the last few years, but if he can stay healthy he presents an intriguing left-handed option at third base and off the bench.
