The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported Wednesday afternoon that the Braves claimed 30 year old outfielder Guillermo Heredia off waivers from the New York Mets.

This transaction continues a string of moves in recent days to bolster a bench that was considered to be a weak point on the roster. Heredia is a fairly known commodity at this point and he can likely be expected to be solidly below-average but non-disastrous on offense. Statcast metrics like Outs Above Average and Outfield Jump have Heredia rated as a good defender. He has played in all three outfield spots, while spending the most time in center field. Heredia could conceivably make the active roster as a depth piece.
The team has yet to announce the move and they will need to clear a spot on the 40-man roster with a corresponding move.
UPDATE - The Braves have officially announced the move and have designated infielder Jack Mayfield for assignment to open a spot on the 40-man roster.
