Is Kyle Wright going to be the odd man out of the rotation...at least at the start of the season?

Wilson shaky but effective in 8-2 win

Bryse Wilson got the start for the Braves on Saturday and while it wasn’t a particularly dominant outing, he battled through and the Braves got themselves an 8-2 win. Also, apparently Ehire Adrianza is impossible to get out now, which is good because the Braves’ bench looked pretty suspect coming into spring and now he has a great shot to snag a roster spot.

Latest on competition for Braves’ 5th spot

With Soroka out for at least a few turns through the rotation, there is a real discussion of who will be the Braves’ 5th starter until he returns to the mound. Based on prospect pedigree, Kyle Wright would be the choice...however, Bryse Wilson has positioned himself as the favorite with Touki Toussaint a dark horse possibility as well.

Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos: My biggest concern is our depth

The Braves have had to handle adversity in recent years to continue their run of success, but their ability to handle adversity for the 2021 season is going to be hampered by payroll limitations that have them essentially playing the lottery to fill out their bench. Roster depth is a real concern this season and AA is right to identify it as a potential weakness.

Leiter throws no-hitter, strikes out 16

Remember when I wrote that Kumar Rocker was nasty and that he was a part of the best 1-2 punch in a college rotation that we have seen in a while? Well the other part, and also a contender for the #1 overall pick in this year’s draft Jack Leiter, tossed a no hitter and struck out 16 against South Carolina...who I assume just wished that Vandy’s bus broke down on the way to the stadium.

Stanton won’t be in OF for Yanks — for now

While Giancarlo Stanton may be best known for his ability to ability annihilate a baseball and threaten satellites in low Earth orbit, there is a chance that we could see him in the outfield a bit more instead of just written in ink as the DH. That said, it sounds like the Yankees aren’t exactly in a rush to get him reps out there...and with his injury history, they may be wise to take that course.
