Charlie Morton tossed three more scoreless innings Sunday and appears ready for the 2021 season. Morton was Atlanta’s big pitching acquisition this offseason and they are hoping he can bring some stability to what should be a much improved starting rotation.

Freddie Freeman struggled most of the Grapefruit League season but showed signs Sunday recording a double and an opposite field home run off lefty Jeffrey Springer.

“He was saying even with his strikeout, he felt good,” Brian Snitker said of Freeman. “So, hopefully, it’s perfect timing.”

The Braves have two more Grapefruit League matchups remaining against the Boston Red Sox before heading north. They will begin the 2021 regular season Thursday with a three-game set in Philadelphia against the Phillies.

Also at, Will Leitch ranks all 30 Opening Day starters for 2021. Atlanta’s Max Fried comes in at No. 10.

Fried will be the first left-hander to start on Opening Day for the Braves since Hall of Famer Tom Glavine in 2002, which is kind of amazing. He should have more help in the rotation this year, but he’s the unquestioned ace.
