Ronald Acuna Jr. has been having one of the better starts to a season that we have ever seen, particularly in a Braves uniform. He currently sports a 1.373 OPS and has been essentially singlehandedly carrying the Braves through the first few weeks of the season.
Which is what makes the news tonight particularly brutal. After drawing a walk, Acuna Jr. was visibly uncomfortable after diving back to first. He advanced to second base, had a chat with the Braves trainer, advanced on Ozuna’s swinging bunt, and still managed to scored on a fly ball from TdA, but was clearly in pain. Then the bad news hit.
For those not watching the game, Acuña left after the top of the fourth inning, after scoring on a hands-first slide on the final play of the inning. No update yet.— David O'Brien (@DOBrienATL) April 19, 2021
Its unclear as to exactly what the injury is as well as how serious it could be, but Ronnie looked to be in a fair amount of pain. We will keep you updated on this story as more information becomes available, but it does appear that the injury bug has bitten the Braves yet again.
UPDATE - 8:39 PM
Acuna Jr. was removed from the game due to pain in his lower abdominal muscles. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
