Ronald Acuna Jr. has mild abdominal strain, considered day-to-day

The best news possible for the Braves’ star outfielder

MLB: Miami Marlins at Atlanta Braves Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Braves fans everywhere held their collective breaths on Sunday night as star outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. departed the game early due to injury, but after undergoing an MRI on Monday it appears Acuna avoided serious injury. He is considered day-to-day with a mild abdominal strain.

The Braves did not seem overly concerned following Sunday night’s win in Chicago, but any time you are dealing with a core muscle injury it’s a bit scary.

Atlanta has an off day Monday and will then face the Yankees in a brief two-game stint before another day off Thursday. It’s unclear if they will hold Acuna out of the lineup in New York, but don’t be surprised if he sits for a couple of games to ensure he does not worsen the strain.

The 23-year-old phenom set the world on fire during the first 2.5 weeks of the season, batting .419/.486/.887 with a league-best 1.6 WAR. With Cristian Pache and Ender Inciarte already on the injured list, the club needs Acuna back as soon as possible.
