The Braves have announced a flurry of movements highlighted by activating Sean Newcomb from the IL.
The #Braves today reinstated LHP Sean Newcomb from the injured list, recalled RHP Edgar Santana to Atlanta and transferred RHP Mike Soroka to the 60-day IL. The club optioned RHP Bryse Wilson and INF Johan Camargo to the alternate training site following last night’s game.

Sean Newcomb returns to the bullpen where he was off to an incredible start with a 1.69 ERA, 1.40 FIP in five games and had a 20.25 K/9, along with a rough 6.75 BB/9 rate. We saw him sit comfortably in the high-90s and will be a welcome addition back to a struggling bullpen.
With him is also Edgar Santana who the Braves traded for back at the beginning of April following his DFA from the Pirates. Edgar is an interesting arm who was filled with promise, for the Pirates, before he got Tommy John surgery that caused him to miss the 2019 season. Ramping up for the 2020 season, Edgar was suspended after failing a PED test and was forced to miss the 2020 season. Fully healthy, the Braves hope that Edgar can reclaim the magic from 2018 where he appeared in 69 games, had a 3.26 ERA with a 7.33 K/9 rate but more importantly 1.63 walks per nine. Edgar features two plus pitches highlighted by a premium fastball and a very nice slider. A healthy Edgar was used in high leverage situations for the Pirates back in 2018, and would provide much needed help from the right side for the Braves.
Along with these two transactions the Braves optioned Bryse Wilson back to the alternate site, along with Johan Camargo which leaves the Braves with a tiny 3 man bench featuring Adrianza, Pablo Sandoval, and Alex Jackson heading into their series with the Toronto Blue Jays.
