UPDATED: MLB confirms that the Atlanta-Washington series will begin on Tuesday.

The opening weekend of the season didn’t go well for the Atlanta Braves who suffered a three-game sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies. Now the Braves will get an extra off day as Monday’s series opener against the Washington Nationals has been postponed according to a report by The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

The Nationals had their entire opening series against the New York Mets wiped out due to multiple positive COVID-19 tests and a number of quarantined players. The actual number of players impacted hasn’t been released, but the assumption is that the Nationals will likely be down several players when the series does finally open.

If things go well, the Nationals are planning to hold a workout on Monday with the series tentatively scheduled to begin on Tuesday. Both teams have a mutual off day so that could work as a make up possibility for Monday’s game, but at this point, there are more hurdles that need to be cleared first.
