The Atlanta Braves suffered a disappointing 6-5 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday night and also their starting catcher. Travis d’Arnaud left Saturday’s game after suffering a left thumb injury on a play at the plate. D’Arnaud left the game and was replaced by Alex Jackson.

Brian Snitker confirmed following the game that d’Arnaud’s injury was “not good” and that he will be placed on the injured list. William Contreras will be called upon to take d’Arnaud’s place on the roster.

Contreras made a good showing during spring training but was eventually the odd man out in the battle for the back up catcher position as the Braves wanted him to see consistent at-bats. He has been working at the alternate site and would have most likely been slated to begin the season at Gwinnett on Tuesday.

D’Arnaud will be flown back to Atlanta where he will be examined by team doctors and his status will be updated later.
