Atlanta Braves 2021 MLB Draft Day 3 Recap

The final day of the 2021 MLB Draft is now in the books and the Atlanta Braves have added 10 additional players to their organization today. Here is a closer look at what each of the 10 Day 3 prospects brings to the Braves.

Round 11 - Adam Shoemaker, LHP, Canada HS

Adam Shoemaker is a projectable left hander with a mid-90s fastball and a promising slider. He’s a player who will need to fill in his 6’6, 205 pound frame, but the Canadian arm has plenty of upside as an overslot prospect. A full writeup on him will follow.

Round 12 - Andrew Hoffman, RHP, Illinois

Andrew Hoffman represents a rarity in a pitcher from a four-year college with a bit of projection still remaining. He’s had a solid career with 2021 being his best season so far and presently looks more like a backend starter or, more likely, useful reliever. The Braves obviously liked something they saw in his mid-90s fastball and solid change, especially after putting together a solid performance in the MLB Draft League.

Round 13 - Adam Zebrowski, C, Saint John Fisher

Adam Zebrowski is a large player from a small school being drafted for the power in his bat. He put up crazy numbers, but did it against weaker competition so there is likely to be a learning curve as he sees whether or not he can do it against better pro arms.

Round 14 - Caleb Durbin, SS, Washington University

Caleb Durbin is one of the most interesting prospects drafted by the Braves. Washington University is a small school in the Midwest and not the University of Washington in Seattle, so there is going to be a learning curve with him as well. However, his feel for hitting led him to putting up the crazy stat line of two strikeouts in 190 plate appearances this spring. He’s a solid athlete and can really be an asset with the glove, but in addition to the jump in competition there are some questions about his future power.

Round 15 - Christian Robinson, OF, Stanford

Christian Robinson has been around for what seems like years, but he is still only 21 years old. The Stanford outfielder is an interesting power and speed combination with defensive value, but there are questions about how much he will hit as he has plenty of swing and miss in his game. It was a good sign that he made some progress in that area in 2021, but it is still something to work on. If he can hit enough, he is a steal this late.

Round 16 - Kris Anglin, LHP, Texas JUCO

Anglin is an undersized lefty out of California who changed his plans and went to a Texas JUCO this year after the pandemic hit. He was committed to Texas Tech for next year, but likely goes pro with a solid three pitch mix.

Round 17 - Tyler Tolve, C, Kennesaw State

Tyler Tolve is a local catcher prospect with some power and a little bit of athleticism behind the plate. He represents a bit of value to get a solid and productive college catcher this late in the draft that has some legitimate potential.

Round 18 - Austin Smith, RHP, Arizona

Austin Smith was in his first year at Arizona after coming from JUCO. He has a 98 MPH fastball but command issues and will need to improve the secondary pitches. Smith is definitely a reliever and a bit of a project, but he has the arm strength to be a guy.

Round 19 - Samuel Strickland, LHP, Samford

Strickland is a senior sign lefty known for his command and pitchability though has seen his fastball tick up to 95 MPH this year. The arsenal probably doesn’t play as a starter, but with his impressive plus plus command he could make it work as a lefty reliever.

Round 20 - Ty Evans, OF, Florida HS

Ty Evans is a legit Top 5 round prospect with a commitment to Florida and his ability to sign is a major question mark. Should he sign, a full scouting report will be up. Evans is a well rounded player with potentially plus power, good athleticism, some defensive value in the corner, but some hit tool questions. His status is definitely one to monitor for the Braves.
