The Braves fell to the Mets on Wednesday in a game that was among the most excruciating losses of the season, especially given the opponent, but missed out on another opportunity as well: Joey Gallo was traded from the Rangers to the Yankees. New York gave up what many evaluators considered a solid haul, but managed to keep all of their top-five prospects. Could, or should, the Braves have beaten the package that Texas accepted for their slugger? Maybe. Does Atlanta need another bat added to their diminished lineup? Absolutely.
With the deadline drawing closer, the Braves are running out of time to make necessary amendments to the current roster. The outfield and bullpen both sorely need upgrades, but the front office may not be convinced that this roster is close enough to warrant buying. The next two days will reveal their true assessment.
