Offseason Milestone Dates Calendar

Compiled from various sources, including CBS Sports. MLB.com, and MLB Trade Rumors.

November 6 (today): End of regular season. Free agency sort of begins, but "quiet period" is in effect for five days. Trade freeze is lifted; teams may trade any players on their 40-man roster, until next season's trade deadline.

November 7: Major league injured lists go out of effect. Players on injured lists must be either added back to the active roster, outrighted, or released. (This is notable in the case of players who ended the season on the 60-day IL. Since players on the 60-day IL are exempt from the 40-man roster, in order to add them back, teams must clear 40-man roster spots for them.)

November 8-10: GM winter meetings, in Las Vegas

November 10: (A) End of "quiet period"; free agents may begin notigating with all teams. (B) Deadline for teams and players with options or opt-outs to decide to exercise or decline their options. © Deadline for teams to decide whether to extend qualifying offers. The qualifying offer amount this year is $19.65M.

November 15: 40-man roster semi-freeze. Teams must decide which players to add to the 40-man roster, to protect them from the Rule 5 draft.

November 18: Contract tendering deadline. Teams must decide which non-free-agent players to tender contracts to. Non-tendered players become free agents. (Note that this is about two weeks earlier than in previous years.)

November 20: Deadline for players who have been made qualifying offers to accept or decline the offers.

December 5: Start of Winter Meetings, in San Diego.

December 6: Draft Lottery, will determine the order of the first six picks in the first round of the 2023 Rule 4 draft.
